
Whether you're looking for small intimate boutiques, major discount stores, or unique antique shops, Warrensburg's business community offers it all. There are more than 50 restaurants featuring a variety of dining styles, hotels, bed and breakfasts, a bowling alley at the University of Central Missouri, and an eight-plex movie theater. Retail centers and individual outlets are located throughout the town.
Historic downtown provides and especially pleasant shopping environment with its ornate 19th-century architecture, much of which is being restored under the auspices of Main Street Inc. Warrensburg Main Street is a non-profit organization working to revitalize our downtown. It focuses on redevelopment of historic buildings, existing utilities, services and infastructure. This efficient and cost-effective approach preserves the community's identity and heritage and enhances its livability and quality of life.
The city provided funds to establish the Johnson County Economic Development Corporation and invested in the refurbishing of Warrensburg's historical railroad depot. The depot currently serves as an Amtrak stop and also as the offices for the Greater Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce.
The $6.2 million Warrensburg Community Center will carry the city's recreational needs well into the 21st-century. A 160-acre regional park is being developed, that will double the existing space available for outdoor recreation.
Warrensburg is home to nearby Whiteman Air Force Base, which has over 7,400 civilian and uniformed personnel on its payroll.
